Lai dzīvo Karaliene, vivat! / Да здравствует Королева, виват!
Elizabeth Tudor and Mary Stuart. A Queen of England and A Queen of Scotland. A Protestant and a Catholic. The two rivals, two opposites, two legends. The two women, who never met, yet made a huge impact on the each other’ destiny - and on the politics of Europe.
...This play, which is bright, sharp, full of intrigue and twists and turns, could be compared to an adventure novel and a spy thriller: whims and conspiracies, recklessness and prudence, sacrifice and profit, love and jealousy... in any circumstances, Elizabeth chooses duty, power and England, and Mary chooses the element of feeling, even when it comes to her crown: it was not for nothing that one of her biographers called Mary’s story "a story of murder, passion, religion and unsuitable lovers". Still, if it hadn't been for politics... Although that's the point: it's impossible to remove the poison of politics from some relationships - both in the sixteenth century and in the twenty-first one.
